Hazel House

A Rebirth for a Victorian Rowhome

This West Philadelphia Row House was once the pride and joy of the neighborhood. Built in 1899, the original owners gave it an extensive overhaul in 1925 bringing in custom craftsmen from New York City and beyond. Bays were expanded, windows were added and new trim and floors were laid throughout. The original owners enjoyed their personal castle for nearly 60 years. Many years later, much like the rest of West Philadelphia, this building fell on hard times suffering from deterioration, water damage and an economic situation that could not sustain the glory of its past. When we acquired this property, the renovation had begun, restoring the systems and structure but the task had proven too large for the current owner. We carefully restored each piece with our bare hands rebuilding historic features when information was available and adding our own flare when we could. One of the main features is the second floor billiard room featuring an antique 1903 Brunswick slate pool table with wet bar and built in home theater. These are features that were not common in 1925 Philadelphia but feel very at home in the style of the home.
